Southern Cross Gaming, often abbreviated as "SCG", is a furry gaming group started in 2010 by Rowedahelicon. Originally made for just one TF2 server, the group has expanded as years have progressed, moving into other games and additional TF2 servers. # Origin ## Pre SCG #Servers ##Chocolate Chocolate, originally named Vanilla, but originally unnamed, was the first TF2 server and first SCG server. A simple 24 player TF2 server featuring stock mods, maps, with some custom mods mixed in. Chocolate was first known as Vanilla when a decision was made setup a second server dedicated to the longer played custom modes (such as Saxton Hale). It was advertised as a vanilla experience referring to mostly stock gameplay mechanics. When a true vanilla (Such as stock weapons) server was voted upon, Vanilla became Chocolate and the original "Chocolate" became Rainbow Swirl. Chocolate has continued to be a stock modes only server, with a mix of stock and custom maps. #Meaning of the name Southern Cross is named after the [star of the same name](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crux). Rowdy chose the Southern Cross as the name because of the nickname Crux, which is also the name of [Rowdy's species](https://en.wikifur.com/wiki/Crux (species)). Rowdy has said he chose the name as a reference to himself without being direct about it. Rowdy hoped that by having a name that wasn't explicitly furry, it wouldn't draw unwanted attention from trolls. Rowdy has also claimed could he change the name, he may have gone with Fur Fortress, a name he later bought to serve as a secondary domain for the servers.
