Welcome to week (7) there was no 6, of the SCG Community Journals. This week the biggest topic is obviously the server switches. So without delay, let's bust into that.
=VOTE OF THE WEEK : SHOULD THE HALE SERVER BE LOCKED TO SCG ONLY? ==
http://www.southerncrossgaming.org/boards/index.php?topic=616.0
When we introduced Saxton Hale to the group, it was widely popular as it usually is. But when we put it on it's own server, it quickly became filled with randoms which shifted the mood of the server over. While some SCG players still enjoyed it on a consistent basis, not enough do to justify keeping it up.
I've talked to a few of you before on this subject and a lot have said they'd play on it more if not for the randoms. So I'm proposing that we lock Hale to SCG only. At least to see if we can get it popular on it's own without ruining it with unwanted guests.
=WHAT IS THE CURRENT PROGRESS OF THE SERVER SWITCHES==
So far it's been a long process but the bulk of it has been taken care of. As of right now, 9:00 Pm EST, Rainbow, Chocolate and Front Line Fudge are online. And while the other servers are still being setup, I've been going back and fixing issues on the currently up ones while simutainously preparing others. The bulk of this is done, my weekend was mainly sorting out all the maps and uploading them on their respective servers.
Chocolate is the most stable right now, with no errors in it's set up. Some of you might of noticed by now that the unfinished MOTD for it was put in place. This willbe finished by Friday. Rainbow will have one too. Without talking too much, let me lay out some stuff in the form of Q/A.
Q : When ARE the minecraft servers going to be up? You keep saying tomorrow and tomorrow is here.
A: Tomorrow (9/4/2012) fior sure. The biggest issue with Minecraft was grabbing the files needed and making sure people had enough time to take notice of the changes / grab their items. Heraberry is currently being setup with it's final prepwork as we speek. And Boysenberry will be copied overnight as to have the latest possible installation.
Q : Are we still having a Saxton Hale Server?
A : Yes, that is in the process of being installed as we speak. When? I'll most likely quietly put it up tomorrow granted it's all set. It's an easy one to set up, just am doing a billion things at once still.
Q : What about all these bug fixes you promised us?
A : I'm still doing those, the problems I'm facing were suddenly having to have all the servers up for use.
Q : You knew that this takes time, why didn't have all this done already?
A : I started it yeah, but what fucked us over was that the current host prematurely closed down all the old SCG Tf2 Servers, leaving me scrambling to get as many up as possible overnight. A lot of the critical files had to be recovered manually as they didn't leave me time to get a backup. I was to have two more weeks (The 15th) on that account before they closed them down.
Q : And what about the already overdue stuff, new admins and such.
A : I haven't forgotten about them and I know you haven't either. I'm aware I'm falling behind on a lot right now but I assure you, I'm also dealing with a great amount of stuff at the moment.
Q : So given all this shit, was is your ETA?
A : I hope to have every server back up, totally reinstalled , new MOTD's and bug fixes by friday. I will then spend this weekend going over new admins.
Q : Where can I find all of the New SERVER ips?
A : http://southerncrossgaming.org/servers.php
Q : What else do I do if I have questions?
A : Write them here, the forums, the group chat, or my email, [email protected]
