Discussion: Suggest me some books? posted in Archives

I received an e-reader for Christmas. While it is shiny, it is also in need of books. Could you suggest some?

Here's a few suggestions from me. I typically like speculative fiction, although lately I'm getting a bit bored of generic medieval high fantasy settings. (A good book is okay in that setting, but... it's generic and typical.)

The Mistborn series, Brandon Sanderson (and pretty much anything else the man writes)-- A very good series about a world that has been ruled by an evil emperor for a thousand years. Sanderson, in general, has very unique magic systems and amazingly twisty plots.

Chronicles of the Necromancer, Gail Z. Martin-- A story about a heroic necromancer. (He's more a psychopomp-- he guides souls, but doesn't raise the dead.) It's a solid, well-done series, although the plot gets a bit derailed by not-vampires in the later books.

Runelords (series), David Farland-- While I've not read the entire series-- I think I have the first 4 or 5 books-- this is another one with an interesting and unorthodox magic system.

I'll go through my library later and give some more suggestions, RP is calling. :)
