I have to make a small rant here about the Walking Dead. I got into this comic series a little after it first came out. My dad and I would (and still do) sit around discussing the different types of characters and how the stories is impacted by humanity.
Then the show came out. Even though he was excited for it, I could already tell that it was going to be shit. And surprise surprise. Frank Darabont has a way of taking a huge shit on endings of things. See the movie 'The Mist' for example. The entire movie was well done, it followed the book seamlessly and came to film beautifully. But watch the last 5 minutes and see how it completely buttfucks the entire premise of the movie's message. Then go read the book and see where he went wrong. (Spoiler alert, the last 5 minutes of the movie didn't appear in the book, because it wasn't a shitty ending and Stephen King isn't a dipshit.)
So fast forward to the first season, things went good. They did a good job introducing the story, the characters, and made the plot move right along as a nice brisk pace with plenty of time to stop and watch the story unfold. Then the ending came and they all went to the CDC. This not only was an terribly shitty ending that didn't belong in any part of the comic's story line, it was also written by Darabont. Put that together if you will.
A year passes, and I got to call my dad out on the fact that I was right about Frank shitting all over the ending. He painfully agrees. So now, we have season 2. And holy shit fuck.
It took us two episodes to get us to the farm, fanfuckingtastic, good work so far. So Carl gets shot, good so far. Then Episode 3 happens, then 4, then today, 5. And what has happened?
We learned that Laurie is pregnant, Maggie and Glenn had sex, and Shane is a dildo. (By the way, the guy he shot didn't die YET in the comic series, I want to assume that part is being saved for Daryll.)
In the last 3 episodes, they took about a half hour worth of story and extended it much longer than it should of been. One of the biggest things that piss me off is that while you could say it's being creative time extending writing, it's not. It's filler that ends up canceling itself out. Episode 4, it took them a half hour worth of show to drag a zombie out of a well and fucked it up, making that entire sub plot worthless. This is a waste of our time / story time, it's not like they're going to run out of material anytime soon. Daryll went out in search of the missing child again (Which by the way, should of been finished 3 episodes ago.) And AGAIN, they didn't find her. He managed to hurt himself, and get shot by one of the good guys.
They're not making character development here, if they think they are then they're doing it poorly. Shane and Rick are both right in their case. Shane wants to gtfo because it's been 3 episodes and the girl would most likely be dead by now. If the main characters collective intelligence fucks shit up everyweek, then I doubt a little girl would make it.
Rick is being Mr. Moral and saying, no, let's find her. Lorie is a neutral potato to both sides.
